This scene just illustrates…again…why Benedict is a genius.
Here, he is NOT playing “guy crying and upset.” He is playing SHERLOCK playing “guy crying and upset.” Now, this would be easy if Sherlock were doing that BADLY. But Sherlock is a god actor, too. And yet it’s always clear that Sherlock is putting on a performance. Not a bad one, just a performance. We see Sherlock’s acting, but we don’t see Benedict’s. So he is playing two levels deep of good acting and somehow managing to let Sherlock’s acting show while keeping his own acting invisible.
I just…I kind of can’t wrap my brain around how he can just DO that.
